Based on Jonathan Frantzen's novel of the same name, the drama is due to run for a full series, with Daniel playing the male lead as well executive producing.

According to US industry website Deadline the show, which is billed as a 'morally complex story of youthful idealism, extreme loyalty and cold-blooded murder', will begin production in 2017 and air in two parts over the course of two years
Sources close to the star told website Variety that the deal is a 'lucrative one' for the actor.
Announcing the news, Showtime president David Nevins said: 'Jonathan Franzen's 'Purity' is an epic American novel that pulses with the energy of a psychological thriller. I whipped through it in a week.

'His gripping and timely story has attracted a powerhouse team - Todd Field, Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, David Hare, along with Franzen himself, and the brilliant Daniel Craig who is perfectly cast as the charismatic, mysterious Andreas Wolf.
'Put it all together and 'Purity' promises to be the kind of taut, long-form, serialized storytelling that is the best of premium television, and is precisely what we at Showtime aspire to deliver.'
Father-of-one Daniel is reportedly also finalising a deal to co-star in Steven Soderbergh's new heist film Logan Lucky, which starts production in the Autumn.

Despite returning to reprise his role as Bond for the fourth time in Spectre, Daniel previously told Time Out that he would only return for the money, adding: 'Now? I'd rather … slash my wrists.

'No, not at the moment. Not at all. That's fine. I'm over it at the moment. We're done. All I want to do is move on.'
However the British actor then added this was would be for the next year or two, explaining: 'I don't know what the next step is. I've no idea. Not because I'm trying to be cagey. Who the f**k knows? At the moment, we've done it. I'm not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.'
