A burglar who broke into a house to steal but end up raping a woman while her husband slept beside her on the matrimonial bed has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment in Gokwe district of Zimbabwe, reports MyZimbabwe.
The cheeky thief, Adam Maraicha, 28, told a court that he had entered the house at night to steal, but was attracted by the naked woman on the bed and had to satisfy his sexual urge before sneaking into th ouple's kitchen where he stole a 10kg bag of mealie-meal before trying to escape into a bush.
Maraicha was sentenced by a Kwekwe Regional Court presided over by Magistrate Amos Mbobo, on a three-count charge of rape, unlawful entry and theft, after he pleaded guilty to all the charges.
“I broke into the house to steal but the sight of the woman on the bed was too much for me to pass up,” Maraicha said.
The prosecutor, Mary Chapinda, told the court that Maraicha had broken into the complainant’s house in a bid to steal money but when he saw the naked woman on the bed, he decided to have a go at her first before carrying out his initial plans.
“The complainant’s wife felt someone grabbing her back and thought it was her husband. She told him to stop as it was too hot to have sex.
The accused continued caressing her before having sex with her while her husband was sleeping by her side. He then sneaked out of the blankets and hid in the kitchen
After the sex act, the woman asked her husband for a towel. The husband questioned her why she needed it.
The woman told him that she wanted to use the towel as they had just had sex. A heated argument ensued as her husband told her he didn’t have sexual intercourse with her.
They suddenly heard sounds in their kitchen and that was when they woke up and saw a man running away towards the bush, holding a 10kg bag of mealie-meal.
The man awakened his neighbours who helped him to chase Maraicha. They found him hiding in the bush and arrested him before handing him over to the police."
